Description
On Naked Island, colors abound as white stones covered by orange lichens give way to alpine type vegetation under a soft blue sky. Driftwood litters the stony beach. A preserved area, Naked Island is about 3 miles of the Northern coast of the St-Lawrence estuary and 20 something miles from Anticosti. Only a handful of operators are allowed to dock - access is limited and controlled. During the half hour it took to cross back and fro, we saw a good dozen of whales, dolphins and seals (or sea tortoises). More whales could be seen from the island - we actually lost interest... While walking around the island, we met a guy kayaking from Sept-Ils to Anticosti (150+ miles)! We also met another guy kayaking without any protective gear, phone - nothing but shorts and T-shirt. An incident in those very cold waters (4 C, 40 F) quickly turns into a nightmare.
